DIAMOND’s design was a hand-painted version of Afghan tarshomar counted-stitch geometric embroidery. There are many diamond patterns in this type of geometric embroidery, and I was interested in the direction and ‘building block’ nature of the stitches.

The blocks to print the DIAMONDS are enormous - a foot across - and very heavy. Because the blocks are so chunky, the printers can barely see over them to see if they are lining up the registration properly. It takes a very steady and experienced - not to mention patient - hand to print it at all.
