Vintage Karapinar Stripe Kilim/ 4'8"x13'2"/142x401cm
Karapinar, in Central Anatolia's Konya district, is a village famous for its high-quality wool and high-quality weaving. These gorgeous, natural beauty stripe kilims are iconic Karapinar: Kilims made from the weaver's own animals, and made for their own use - not for the commercial market. True village kilims, they reflect the dimensions of the loom, the colors of the animal's wool (the wool is undyed) and the prowess of the weaver within her community.
Very pretty, subtle stripes in thin double lines of copper and darkest black-brown, this piece also has abrash between stripes. Artistic and free in hand, this kilim also has cicim decorations at one end in various colors - the weaver's way of showing off, and staving off the boredom of weaving stripes. A beautiful piece on its own right, also ripe for layering with other rugs or used as upholstery.
